Located in the center of the city, the museum is not only part of the square layout, but also one of the symbols of the mountain village. The house in which the great poet of Bulgaria and beloved son of Bansko grew up was opened for visits in 1952. in connection with the awarding of Nikola Vaptsarov with the prestigious International Peace Prize. Thus began the museum work in Bansko. The poet's mother - grandmother Elena - participated in the arrangement of the exhibition, she and his sister Raina were among the first tour guides. Since then, for more than 60 years, the flow of people, different in age, occupation, nationality, but united by the desire to touch the life of the artist, to be inspired by his poetry and to bow before his genius, has not stopped. According to a visitor, “Knowing the man and the poet Vaptsarov from a book is not enough, but being in his home environment, following his life, seeing his personal belongings, walking in his footsteps, breathing the air he breathed is something else entirely!” Over the years, the museum has been reconstructed and renovated several times, leading to the last exhibition, which was realized in 1992. The conceptual design was the work of director Valo Radev, and the implementation was handled by leading specialists in this field. Non-traditional methods of presenting information for a memorial museum were used. Effective lighting and sound were included. Through specially selected videos, visitors have the opportunity to gain a more complete idea of Nikola Vaptsarov and his time.
